Awesome Sculptures Of Ron Mueck!
86Sculptors of Ron Mueck
Ron Mueck is an Australian hyperrealist sculptor working in Great Britain. Mueck's early career was as a model maker and puppeteer for children's television and films, notably the film "Labyrinth" for which he also contributed the voice of Ludo.
Ron Mueck The Artist
Mueck moved on to establish his own company in London, making photo-realistic props and animatronics for the advertising industry. Although highly detailed, these props were usually designed to be photographed from one specific angle hiding the mess of construction seen from the other side. Mueck increasingly wanted to produce realistic sculptures which looked perfect from all angles.
Mueck's sculptures faithfully reproduce the minute detail of the human body, but play with scale to produce disconcertingly jarring visual images. His five metre high sculpture Boy 1999 was a feature in the Millennium Dome and later exhibited in the Venice Biennale.
Mueck concluded that photography pretty much destroys the physical “presence” of the original object, and so he turned to fine art and sculpture. In the early 1990s, still in his advertising days, Mueck was commissioned to make something highly realistic, and was wondering what material would do the trick.
Latex was the usual, but he wanted something harder, more precise. Luckily, he saw a little architectural decor on the wall of a boutique and inquired as to the nice, pink stuff’s nature. Fiberglass resin was the answer, and Mueck has made it his bronze and marble ever since.
Pregnant woman is Mueck’s most ambitious work to date. The sculpture is monumental (2.5m high), utterly imposing and even intimidating when first experienced by the viewer. After a while, however, this majestic Earth Mother becomes familiar, unthreatening and endearing. She is exhausted, hands held back over her head; the face is tender and vulnerable. Her presence is a powerful one indeed, and she evokes a multitude of thoughts, ranging from the wonder of maternity and procreation to population control and the burden of female responsibility.

Ron Mueck takes his place in the tradition of those who have tried to make objects which are very real. Terms such as Super-Real and Hyper-Real have been used to describe those artists who have attempted extreme verisimilitude. Ron Mueck seeks to achieve perfection, the precise demonstration of reality as he finds it.
Mueck’s work is always out of scale from reality. His figures are either oversized or undersized. They strive for super-realism, but there is a psychological confrontation between these two contradictory realities, the effort to deceive by perfection, and the obvious discrepancy of scale. Ron Mueck’s work is sculpture. He does not make models, giant or tiny puppets. He employs all the techniques of technological advance to create works of art.
Dead Dad
Mueck works with a particular type of super-realism that has a long history. He invites people to take a close-up look at his work, to inspect the hairs, freckles and blemishes, to scrutinize the carefully modelled expression and contemplate the difference between artist-made reality and the world in which we live.
"I never made life-size figures because it never seemed to be interesting. We meet life-size people every day.'" Says Mueck
'There's no denying that I have more information readily at hand when I have a live model. Even when I have had a model, however, what I have to do in the end is to consciously abandon the model and go for what feels right.'
-Ron Mueck
The artist's work has been applauded by some critics as 'the best thing to happen to figurative sculpture in ... generations'. (Peter Plagens in Newsweek), but others have dismissed him as a mere 'model maker'. What do you think?

I REALIZE THIS IS A U.K. THING BUT WHAT THE HECK? IS CIRCUMCISION A CRIME THERE? THAT IS THE ONLY DETRACTING FACTOR IN THE WHOLE EXIBIT.
i love it when is your next uk showing please
wow, at first i thought they were fake and that they were just real people that had been photographed, but when they were shown in proportion to an actual living human, i was shocked to find that they really were sculptures! he captures humanity so well...i would love to go and see his work in person ^_^
Someone mentioned a museum in London that had current works by Ron Mueck that was to start in November-it had something to do with Medicine? I lost the info and am going to London soon and would like the info again. Can't find it anywhere. thanks if you have it please let me know!

Having had the privalege of seeing Ron Mueck's work here in Great Britain, before he really became famous...I can tell you if you have any touch with reality, seeing his work "in the flesh" will move you in a way that most modern art cannot acheive.
He shows us our "raw" humanity, vulnerability and need for communication, on another level completely. Thanks for this informative lens. David Jewell UK Artist -

You are amazing! Thank you so much for all you do and have done. Ps...my family loved your work in Labrinth, Bluto was our favorite.
Loved his work in Labyrinth. If I ever get to Europe, seeing his work will be high on my list of things to do. If he's EVER in the San Francisco or San Jose area, I'll be the first in line for tickets, regardless of how much they cost.
I've just seen his works last week at the National Gallery Victoria, Melbourne. The Entry wasn't that pricey at all. It's AU$15 per adult.
Where can we see his works, now?
I have viewed Mueck's work over and over again. I cannot fathom the time, dedication and talent that went into every piece. The detail is phenominal and percise. Mueck is a genious and a true master of art. I absolutely love his work.
Wow...this is my first viewing of Ron's work and only via an email link....but so stunning...would love to see these works in person. As a midwife I have to say he has captured the reality extraordinarily well. Exceptional work.
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i wioo be viewing this sculptor in about 2 weeks time so excited.
well i have to say he is an utterlly appreciated artest...i was gob-smacked of what i have just saw above...he's an incredable talanted man. well done to him..there
Incredible but kind of creepy!
as an artist myself i think wow just about sums it up for me.
This man is talented there can be no doubt but that only takes you so far. He is hard working, fastidious, intellegent, and committed. He sits quietly contemplating the meaning of a beautiful piece of music. He cries when he feels something that touches his heart.Above all he is couragious.I am so happy that there are people like you out there.
Most realistic art I've ever seen.Bravo to Mr. Mueck!!
I saw your exhibition in Sydney 6 years ago and was totally blown away by what I saw! I have followed your work ever since.
Your work just gets more awesome and sooooo realistic, love it! More please!!

Birmingahm - England
Unbelievable, detail so fine would love to see his whole collection!!!!
Who has the right and/or qualification to refer to him as a mere model maker? Isn't that like saying the great painters were merely talented paint daubers?
I would like to see what kind of work is produced by those who dismiss this as model making......
RON MUECK IS AWESOME!!!
SO confronting, but so great. His art has really helped me to view others and the journey of life (birth to death) in a new and refreshed way. Yay for Mueck!
Ron, your Artwork is amazing and so reaistic and really inspirational.
What an innovative artist who captures our imaginations and makes us look outside the box. Ron and his art creations make us think, wonder and grow from the experience.........THANXS for the beauty and conceptions you bring to us through your work!

ron, saw acollction of your work in brisbane at the gallery of modern art GOMA. with my 11yr old daughter and we were both gobsmacked.. you must feel very fulfilled when you see your complete work. thanks
Thanks to you for being an incredible accessory in our ever-expanding universe. Truly touching, riveting,& awe inspiring...your talent & unreasonable dedication to risk has not gone unnoticed.Congratulations on your extraordinary life.
I am absolutely blown away with his talent. I am a huge art lover. If there is anything else like this u guys, please let me know. Ron is the best.
This guy creates things that most definitely cause a reaction in the mind of the viewer. Is this not then art? The people who claim he is a "mere" model maker are probably "critics" with no actual ability to create art themselves. Maybe it's time we banned "ART" schools and only allowed the folk who come with real natural talent built in to create art for other people instead of belittling it by calling it craft. This would be better than putting self appointed, supposed academics on pedestals and allowing them to befuddle us as they blather on, spouting the intellectual nonsense that has "artists" creating so much mundane, boring and stupid junk. But there again, that stuff is for the rich anyway. People with lots of money who need to be told what they should spend it on because they are emotionally empty and couldn't react to a real piece of art if their small but expensive lives depended on it.
just the best aussie aussie aussie
They took my breath away. Just when I thought I'd seen it all! Where are they on exhibit?
RON SHOULD LIVE AT LEAST 300 YEARS!!
The realism in Ron's scupture is amazing! What is the difference between a model and sculpture, anyway? Don't both depict life in the eyes of the creator? Are we not all models as the Bible says, created in the image and likeness of the greatest model maker of all; God?
its awsome
Amazing detail - would like to see exhibition sometime.
Just discovered Ron's work in Liverpools Tate. His sculpture 'Ghost' just blew me away. Like a dream that lingers this startlng image is both provocative and intimately sensitive. Ron captures the essence of humanity in all its light and shade. What a privledge to have see his work
I saw the exhibition in Brisbane, Queensland yesterday - fascinating. I wanted to find a decent page to post on FB so this was it - thanks!
I LOVE ALL OF THEM
THAY ARE ALL AWSOME
I was recently lucky enough to visit a Ron Mueck exhibition. It was absolutely amazing. The scale and detail in the peices are wonderful. You could study these for hours.
I wish I could see some of his work in person -- this is amazing, wonderful art, and very moving. I think that we, as a culture, have forgotten what reality actually looks like. Thank you for sharing it with us!

are you going to exhibit in the USA????
osum wrk
amazing n wonderful1!!!,thank you. for sharing with us..very realistic!.
Really you are artist, your sense is appear over all your art works
My friend and colleague Malcolm saw your exhibit in New Zealand - we viewed his photos at lunch the other day. Incredible and AWESOME, to say the least. A great artist! You rock! And yes, when are you coming to the USA? If you need exhibit space in San Francisco, give a holler. People here would welcome and appreciate the chance to experience your works of art!!!
wow.............
I live in Washington, DC and have seen Big Man in person. It's incredible. I'd love to see other work from him in person. Amazing.
Just saw the large newborn and the very old small woman curled under a blanket in Regina Saskatchewan. I wept. The baby is the centre of the universe both to itself and to us, the parents, while the old sleeping and likely dying woman is a pale butterfly, so beautiful, so fragile and about to become something else. Thank you so much!
I am in utter amazement at the accuracy of the replication of the human body as scultped! Not only do these sculptures give the viewer time to "take in" the wonderment of the human form in all walks of life, it slows time to a standstill to appreciate the human emotion and condition. I stare....
inspirational i'd love to create like you when are you coming to england
I will never see people quite the same. Thank you
Kevin wondered in an older post if circumcision was illegal in the UK, as none of the sculptors being circumcised was a detration for him.
On the contrary these (male) exhibits are an excellent way for American males to start to become aware of what they have "lost" ..... and they have lost a LOT!
Please see www.nocirc.org for more info.
REALLY REALLY REALLY AMAZING!!! THE RESURRECTION OF MICHELANGELO BUONARROTI WITH RON MUECK!!! THIS ART OF WONDER THIS IS ART OF MIRACLE!!!

im learning about Ron Mueck in art. He is a very inspiring artist, where he wants to shock people and amaze them. These sculptures are just amazing and so life like, the inspiration of many old sculptures made new.
Incredible , I,m amazed at his talent
Awesome sculptor yes...
his idea of aesthetics .... very bad unfortunately
Think Afrodite of Mylos, Samothraki, Hermes of Praxitelous
What is there in it besides the scale?
ho !!! Ron Mueck The Artist
What is there besides the scale You ask??? Everything! If you have the chance to actually see the exhibition is awesome the details in every single piece ( I saw it in monterrey, mexico in july 2011)
His works just have that WOW factor.
it is such a genius to make a sculpture that looks so real human life
How vulgar and tastless.
The work is not only true to life but each piece seems to have a soul. I felt such sympathy for the bearded man being stared at by all those "wee" people. Please come back to Edinburgh again. Thank You
Such magnificent art I must say. The sculptures are absolutely breathtaking as to the realism expressed in facial expression and stance. Wow!
which one is in the north carolina musuem of art
