Bugatti Veyron

Many may not be aware that the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is named in honor of the legendary French racing driver Pierre Veyron. Pierre Veyron achieved the remarkable feat of winning the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1939 racing for the original Bugatti firm.

Bugatti Veyron is acclaimed as the speediest and the most powerful street-legal full production car in the world, with 1001 horsepower. It is understandably the most expensive vehicle of that type as well.

Although it is a fact that today several faster and higher priced street-legal cars is being manufactured, they are produced on a restricted basis. The Bugatti Veyron attained optimum production capacity in September 2005. The car is built by the renowned automobile giant Volkswagen AG and is marketed under the French Bugatti marque.

Bugatti Veyron is the fastest road car in the world

The motor enthusiasts may be eager to know that Bugatti Veyron uses W16 engine-16 cylinders in 4 banks of 4 cylinders. Each cylinder possesses 4 valves, adding up to 64. But the fact is the narrow V8 configuration allows two camshafts to drive two banks of cylinders so only 4 camshafts are required.

The engine of the technically well-designed car is fed by four turbochargers, and displaces 8.0 L with a square 86 by 86 mm bore and stroke. Furthermore, the vehicle has got a wheel base of 2710 mm with overall length of 4462 mm. The other measurements are 1998 mm width and 1206 mm height.

The vehicle is fitted with as many as ten radiators and endowed with all-wheel drive operating on the Haldex system. Yet another attractive feature is the Veyron runs on specially and exclusively crafted Michelin run-flat tires that can cope up with the vehicle's furious speed without losing road grip. Designers confirm that the estimated curb weight is around 1890 kg and this should provide the car an acceptable power to weight ratio of 529 bhp per tonne.

Bugatti Veyron vs Mclaren SLR

The basic cost of Veyron is in the region of $1,440,000. The other technical features are - it has a top speed of an incredible 407 km per hour and consumes a whopping 34 liters of fuel to cover 100 km in city driving and 24 liters for covering 100 km in highways.

This ferocious leonine vehicle needs only 2.5 seconds to reach a distance of 100 km and 55 seconds to 400 km from a state of motionlessness. This is indeed mind-boggling.
