Dan Fogelberg
69Dan Fogelberg Songs
I became a fan of Dan Fogelberg a few years ago when I heard his song Windows and Walls from the album with the same title. It was released in 1984.
I was quite sad to see the news today. The music legend passed away too soon. But he will be remembered forever for his contributions to the music world.
Dan Fogelberg has many hits that are popular around the world that includes same old lang syne, leader of the band, longer... to name a few.
I have included some of my favorite Dan Gogelberg music videos with this.
Daniel Grayling Fogelberg was born on August 13, 1951, Peoria, Illinois. His music was inspired by sources as diverse as folk, pop, classical, jazz, and bluegrass music. Graduated from Woodruff High School in 1969, he spent some time as a session musician for artists like Van Morrison.

Windows And Walls Lyrics
Windows And Walls
Up every morningLong before day Cooking her breakfast alone She quietly dresses And pulls up the shades And sits in the chair by the phone. But nobody ever comes by anymore Nobody ever calls Most days she sits and just stares At the windows and walls Windows and walls. Children all married Husband's passed on Nothing but time on her hands Most of her mornings Are spent in her dreams Or making her sad little plans. Maybe she'll go to the corner today And pick up the new McCalls If just to escape for an hour From her windows and walls Windows and walls. The clock on the mantel Chiming the hours Must be the loneliest sound She washes her dishes and waters her flowers And afterwards has to sit down. Sometimes she still can remember a child Playing with china dolls... Now all that she's left Are these memories and windows and walls Windows and walls (day after day) Windows and walls.
Fogelberg was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in May 2004. Although he was able to control the spread by hormonal therapy, he finally succembed to cancer on December 16, 2007 at his home in Maine with his musician wife, Jean Fogelberg, by his side.
He released his debut album Home Free in 1972. Although it was not a great success his next album Souvenirs which was released in 1974 made him a major star for the hit song "Part of the Plan" in it.
After that he had a string of gold and platinum album. Below are the solo albums released by Dan Fogelberg that do not include compilation.
Home Free (1972)
Souvenirs (1974)
Captured Angel (1975)
Netherlands (1977)
Phoenix (1979)
The Innocent Age (1981)

Dan Fogelberg has released two more albums with Tim Weisberg

No Resemblance Whatsoever (1995)
I own three of his albums, Windows and Walls, The Very Best of Dan Fogelberg (2001) and The Essential Dan Fogelberg (2003)
Two of his songs have been used in movies. "There's a Place in the World for a Gambler" (originally on Souvenirs)was used in FM and "Times Like These" was used in Urban Cowboy, a year before it appeared on the 1981 album The Innocent Age.

Sunseven, you talk with passion and therefore leaves more of an impression with me.
I guess Dan Fogelberg's Music meant a lot to you.
I offer my thoughts and sympathies.

SunSeven, long time no see. I'll show this hub to my son, and will also listen in. Missed you!
Let's raise a glass to innocence and toast the leader of the band. If a song has the power to spark memories, and cause reflection, then Mr.Fogelberg did a great job of both for me. He will be missed, but the music lives forever.
Thanks for a great hub!
SunSeven, sorry to have to correct you but in the early part of your article you mention that Dan Fogelberg has had such hits as "Sometimes When We Touch", etc. Sometimes When We Touch is actually bt Dan Hill, not Dan Fogelberg. Please correct your entry. Thanks. Rest In Peace Dan.
great sight and true enough about his lyrics and his music.
Sometimes when we touch as I recall was by Canadian singer Dan Hill who wrote the lyrics as well.
DaN f. wILL BE MISSED SURE ENOUGH.

What sad news, especially for someone so young. Thanks for the memories.
I did not know that he had died, of cancer. How sad a disease that is.
Ahhhhhh, SunSeven, You have been missed!!
Thank you soooooooooo much for creating such a loving tribute to a muscian who touched so many of our lives!! I wrote a short, quick Hub (as I was running out the door) that did not give Dan Fogelberg the recognition and reverence his work and life deserves!!
Thank you special angel for creating this wonderful tribute!!
Blessings to you and yours!! Welcome back!! Earth Angel!!
P.S. The song, Netherlands, is all one word!! I saw on the Internet, almost everywhere, it is listed as two words, Nether Lands!! I checked my Dan Fogelberg CD and sure enough it is one word!! ;-)
I have not heard his musics but have read about him a lot.
I didn't know Dan Fogelberg either, but I know how deeply a great musician can affect our lives. I hope his legacy fares better than Bing Crosby's. The 30th anniversary of Bing's death this year is going by with little more than a wimper. How soon we forget!
What a beautiful memorial you've made to him. Great job on a tough topic.
SunSeven! Great HUB! Dan was one of my fave musician in the 70s and 80s. I love Leader of the band the best as it has some personal meanings to me. It sure is sad to die so young
regards Zsuzsy
I didn't even know that he died. How sad. Thank you for posting the lyrics to Windows and Walls. It made me think of my mother and I'm going to get off the computer and go call her right now!
I have always loved Fogelberg's music. I lost my father when I was 20, and the song Leader of the Band always makes me think about my dad. Fogelberg's music touched a lot of people's lives.
Sine 1978, 30 years together with my life, I'm SO sad and cry......... now something missing !
I too have always loved Dan Fogelberg's music. I am saddened by his passing, but I am happy to know that his music lives on.
I had heard of his illness some time ago but didn't know of his passing until I saw your hub. Windows and Walls was my absolute favorite. You can picture the old lady and can relate to the loneliness of being old and alone. This is one song I've never seen a video of. I recently put together a compilation DVD of some of his appearances like Taste of Colorado, Soundstage and an unknown live concert. Lots of video but no Windows and Walls. R.I.P Dan.
My wife and I had attended more Dan Fogelburg concerts together than any other artist. We once drove 250 miles to attend one. He will be sorely missed.
Souvenirs is one of my favorite albums. You must be in heaven finally! Blessings to your family and one day you will all be reunited!
I respect your work and added blog to favorites
My late wife and I danced to "Longer" at our wedding in 1980. She passed from cancer 9 years ago and hearing of Dan's passing gave me the feeling of loosing another best friend. His music has touched lives in deep places, and will never loose it's place in our hearts.

Sad news indeed. I loved Dan's music while growing up.
