Medical field has enormous employment potential in India and admittedly Medical jobs have unending market demand, earning potential and dignity. There are opportunities galore for Specialist Doctors, Surgeons, General Physicians, Dentists, Nurses, Pharmacy Jobs, Physical Therapy Jobs, Dental Jobs, Para-medical Staff, Medical workers etc.

Apart from qualified doctors and nurses, hospitals employ anesthesiologists and a host of paramedical staff like operating room technicians, house-keepers, pharmacists, clinical laboratory technicians, Xray technicians, qualified ultrasound/ MRI /CT scans operators, dieticians, psychiatrists and physical therapists.

Paramedical services are secondary medical services to assist the doctors. The continuous expansion of the health care industry and the steady increase in the number of hospitals has created a pressing demand for trained paramedical professionals.

The main areas in paramedical education include Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Nursing, Occupational therapy, Speech therapy, Medical laboratory technology, Radiology/X-Ray technology, Dental mechanics, Operation theater assistant, Optometry and Ophthalmic assistant etc.

The minimum qualification for getting admission to many paramedical course is plus two (10+2) passed or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. At least 50% of marks should be secured in each of these subjects. Minimum age limit is for candidate is 17 years.

There are scores of institutions that offer degree/diploma and other certificate courses in different paramedical branches. Most paramedical staff can expect a starting salary of Rs. 8000 and this will progressively go up as the person gathers experience.

Most hospitals advertise vacancies in leading newspapers and health magazines. Whilst on the subject, special mention must be made of the plethora of jobs available in the field of alternate medicine like Homeopathy, Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Naturopathy, Reiki etc. Many believe that traditional Indian medicine has a remarkable 5000-year-old history and has been used by millions till the advent of allopathy and other modern medical practices.

It is a fact that traditional medicine cannot wholly replace modern medicine as far as diagnosis, investigation and emergency care are concerned, certain 'alternative' systems of health care have shown positive results even in chronic illnesses like diabetes, leucoderma, arthritis, asthma and even AIDS.

The Indian government is actively supporting researches and aiding the practice of alternate medicines.There are many institutions that offer diploma courses in alternate medicine if an aspirant wishes to qualify and set up private practice. There are good employment opportunities in various research institutes and in many pharmaceutical companies for those qualified in any branch of alternate medicine.
