Earlier, I received one from that never ending stream of forwarded emails. An unsuspecting friend sent it to me, expecting me to forward it to the people I know. Unfortunately, that thread stopped with me as I was aware of the facts. I am sure at least some you must have received the same or similar mail at some point of time. For the uninitiated it goes like this.......

*27th Aug the Whole World is waiting for.............*
Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August.
It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will cultivate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has 2 moons. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

Hmmm.. Sounds interesting and makes you want to keep it in your reminder, as the mail claims that NO ONE ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again!
I am sure a lot of people all over the world waited anxiously for this to happen on August 27, 2007, expecting to see this miracle.
Well, perhaps they should have read this first. People saw it first in July 2003, and then again in 2005 and 2006 and now we are seeing it again this year, and I believe we will keep seeing it for a few years more! I mean The Mail. Not the 'phenomena'.
Two Moons
In July 2003, the title of the mail was "Mars Spectacular" or "Close Encounter". Indeed, Mars really did come very close to earth on August 27, 2003, within 56 million Kilometers, making it appear 6 times larger and 85 times brighter than it usually does, in its closest approach to earth in nearly 60,000 years. It is a fact that every 2 years Mars come a littl closer to earth, but nothing 'as spectacular' as in 2003 is going to happen again this year. But these chain letters surface every year predicting the samething, although this year's mail had a common head "Two Moons On August 27".
It is a little ironic that people on some parts of the world will not even see a single moon on that day! A total lunar eclipse is will be occuring on some parts of the world on that day. But this year also Mars will come a little close to earth but it will still be only around 85 million Kilometers and it wil not be anything near the 'Mars spectacular' that happened in 2003.
So people, please stop forwarding this chain letter. Considerable amount of time, energy, money and resources are wasted everyday by people forwarding seemingly useful but false information.

I don't know what i saw..i never got the email either..i just looked out my window and saw what i thought was two moons...it was clear enough for me to see that i ran to my front door and took a pic. One looked bigger than the other. The smaller figure was covered a little by the larger figure but both were very bright; looked like two moons!!

I sent in a report about viewing the so-called two moons
on saturday nite the 28th. I did some more "research" by
looking out the window again tonite at the moon, and once
again, saw a smaller cirle of dimmer light off to one side of the moon. but this time, I got in a position to also see the street light down the street. guess what? it also had a smaller of circle of light...which i realized is simply because i was looking through a double paned storm window, which destroys my theory that I had see TWO MOONS. Am I smart or what? I hang my head in shame. sorry for false report. rucie stone in fayetteville, n.c.
believe me, i actually went out at 12 am to check out for tis phenomena, but found jus the moon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw a moon with a round small object nest to it
I only saw the moon and a star next to it.
I saw only one moon and a shining star near the moon on the sky on 28-08-2010 01:30AM at night.
in South Africa and there wasn't a single moon visible at all, there was a pretty big full moon the night before though
Well today is August 27, 2010. The current time is 8:03 p.m. I don't know if this really going to happen tonight. It's really cloudy out, so in Metairie Louisiana we may not ever get to see this. I hope that if this is a true event, and not fictonal, it will be well documented.

in malta i see a like bright star near the moon but i dont know if its wat you ppl are calling two moons lol or just a star :S my aunt called and told us and maybe it is wat you are calling two moons but from my side of the world it is smaller.. .you know ????? i dont read my emails so i didnt know but ppl are saying it appears every 100000 years... i dont belive that but maybe it is true coz remember in august there where the falling stars well in malta there was and ye it does happen every year( the falling stars) but this year there where much more than there is normally... people where saying.. lol on that night i was soooo annoying these two young couples where like telling eachother love stuff and another man flashiong his bright light in the sky whenever there was a falling star ppl went oooooooohhhhhh ... i was kinda annoyed and then there where ppl having a barbeque :) lol if you saw the falling stars or somethihg ( i know i went out of point .. repl to me ... oohh and it is 10:46 pm in malta at the moment ... thanks if there are any ppl from malta who see it reply... i dont know if i will see your reply becuase i might log off... im gonna go have supper bye... sorry i get carried away typing
